The Donkey
In the Bible in Mark chapter 11:1-11, Jesus tells two of his disciples to go into the village and as you enter the village you shall find a colt (young donkey) on which never a man sat upon it. Jesus goes on to say, “loose him and bring him.” In Matthew 21 and John 12:12 the donkey is called an ass. It is also called an ass in Exodus 13:13. God tells the Jews in Exodus 13:12 & 13, “That every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb.” All firstborn males that open the womb, man or beast, must be set apart. But if the owner of the male ass doesn’t redeem the colt with the sacrifice of a lamb, then the owner must break the colt of an ass’ neck. God doesn’t say to break any other animal or man’s necks. Why must the colt be redeemed?
My Pastor Randy Friedman in his sermon on April 21, 2019, Easter morning, he mentioned Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey; and all first born donkeys had to be redeemed but he didn’t know why. I had done research on this same question years ago, but couldn't find that information. So I decided to research it again. I read Exodus 13:12-16, All 4 of the gospels, and versus about this donkey again. I had no understanding of why the donkey had to be set apart or redeemed by a lamb. Then I had a thought to look up the meaning of the word ass in the Strong's Concordance (I didn't have a Concordance the first time I researched the donkey). When I say "I thought" it means the Holy Spirit led me to think to research it. Usually I hear "break it down", for the meaning of a verse I don't understand.
The word ass in Exodus 13:13, in the Hebrew means a male ass (from its dun red). Now I thought whats a dun? So I looked that up in the Websters dictionary of the English Language. It says, to make repeated and insistent demands upon, especially, for the payment of a debt; a person, especially a creditor, who duns another; a demand for payment, especially a written one, pronounced done.
Now you get the meaning of the ass, and why Jesus came into Jerusalem riding an ass or a dun to the temple. God the Father, has been repeatedly asking for payment of our sins since Adam and Eve disobeyed Him. Now time was up. Covering our sins with the blood of a lamb once a year (Passover) was no longer excepted, man now needs to pay in full with a pure, perfect blood sacrifice of a sinless man. The Father is the Creditor, Jesus is the Lamb to be sacrificed and the ass is sin debt. If we don't kill The Lamb then the ass' neck must be broken. The only way the ass could be set apart (redeemed) is through a lamb sacrifice, and the only way man can be set apart, redeemed from our sins, is our sins have to be paid in full though the Lamb, Jesus Christ.
The title has been ripped in two just as the veil in the temple was torn in two in the Holy of Holies (Matthew 27:50-53). We can now enter into heaven and be with God if we believe in Jesus the Messiah, who is fully God, fully Man, who came to earth to pay our debt, our sacrificial lamb, died for our sins according to the scriptures, was buried, and rose again on the third day. (I Corinthians 15:1-4) That donkey played an important part that Passover Day.

Amazing!!!
